After the groundwater has been pumped to the surface, the water has been transported via pipeline systems to waterworks or direct to the endusers.
The distribution system, pipe lines and pumps, allows to cover the requirements of the endusers over long distances. Pipe lines and pumps have to be designed according to the pressures requirements of the different height of the landscape.
Pumps are available in a many designs and for different functions, like pumps for water supply of individual houses, villages, cities, agriculture and industrial activities, irrigation projects etc.
In all cases the operation conditions have to be considered in an early planning stage. For the design of pumps, the water quantity, total height, motor, material have to be selected and /or calculated. It is recommendable to consult for all these tasks a pump expert in the early planning stage.
For the water transport different pipe materials are used. The economic aspects, like investment cost, life time and running cost have to be considered as well. From the point of corrosion resistance, easy installation (transport and connection) as well as minimum friction losses, plastic pipes are dominating, especially for the distribution network.
Relining of damaged pipe systems with plastic pipes is an excellent technology to reduce water losses in downtown areas at reasonable investment cost.
